I’ve knocked up an override for forum template. Various tweaks and changes:

If you’re using Firefox + Stylish , here’s the code to plugin:

@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);
@-moz-document domain("forum.madebyfrog.com") {

body{
margin:0 !important;
padding:0 !important;
}
input[type=text]{
width:600px !important;
}
td.infos{
background:#e9e9e9 !important;
width:200px !important;
}
td.post_content{
padding:0 0 0 20px !important;
}
td.post_content a:visited{
color:#4b22bb !important;
}
td.post_content blockquote{
background-color:#ffffff !important;
border:none !important;
border-left:10px solid #dddddd !important;
color:#666666 !important;
}
td.post_content blockquote p{
background-color:#ffffff !important;
color:#666666 !important;
}
td.post_content code{

}
td.post_content pre{
background:none !important;
border:none !important;
border-left:10px solid #ffe0c1 !important;
}
textarea#post_body{
height:400px !important;
width:1000px !important;
}
tr.odd td,tr.even td{
border-top:1px solid #cccccc !important;
}
ul#nav a{
color:#e0ffc1 !important;
text-decoration:none !important;
}
#content a{

Nice, I like that look. Don’t use firefox though. Would be great if it was default :)

@Philippe – If you’re listening… could you use this stylesheet? I quite like it and it would bring the forum more in line with the main website!

I know you’re out-of-town until tomorrow, so I’ll CC this message to your email just in case.

Let me know if it’s going to be used and I’ll blend in to the main CSS if you want.

What’s wrong about the current madebyfrog.com design and branding? I like it. Nice and simple. Though we need a wiki. And we need both the forum and the wiki to be branded like the main site. :-)

Not really a bug – just my preference. Easily changed – ‘width:1000px !important;’ to whatever value you would like.

…all the design and branding of Frog I will have a big help From www.olaisred.com

Why is it changing? It’s very nice as is. :)

P.S. While you’re here Philippe, would you consider using different forum software? This one lacks some basic functionality that is going to make things more difficult as time goes by. E.g. there is no way to link to individual posts, no way to find all posts by a user, no way to view subscriptions or manage them centrally, no way to subscribe to posts I make automatically, the popup reply box covers content which I want to view while replying, no RSS subscription, URLs are not automatically linkified, etc.

FluxBB would get my vote.

no way to subscribe to posts I make automatically, …, no RSS subscription,…

The RSS icons at the top of each topic, area, and forum as a whole should let you subscribe at each of those levels.

Some of the other features you would like are possible with this software. It just (ha!) needs Philippe to do it…

And thanks for CSS nudge!

DavidOne,

I subscribe to several posts using the RSS and the “Monitor topic” checkbox in the upper right part of the page. But I can appreciate additional features in the forum, like viewing all posts by a specific user.

Just curious, why the numerous !important in the CSS rules?

Thanks, guys – I hadn’t noticed the RSS icon… I was looking in the address bar for the RSS indicator.

redcrew:

You need those if you’re overriding the site CSS with Stylish. They’re not needed if it’s going to be incorporated in to the site’s code. I write CSS overrides for most sites I visit regularly – I’ve loaded some of them up if you’re interested – http://userstyles.org/users/504

I really like the forums as they are now and the branding idea seems cool too, but some of the best forums out there I think are the emptees.com and designbyhumans.com forums. I particularly like the design oriented feel of the posting and information that goes with it like, how many responses and whe it was post. I think it just looks nice : )

also i think automatic links on these forums would be nice…

ohhhhhhhhhhh I like all those ideas !! I want to code them :D and I will !! for sure

  • user posts
  • posts perm link
  • monitoring topics ( well I was thinking this one was working)
  • maybe I can add a little space at the bottom of the page for the edit box ;)
  • and alot of other todo on my list ;)

thanks

and you found it so it is well done I think ;)

just curious about the monitoring ! is it working for you ?

Yes, it’s obviousand to me that the ’15 hours ago’ thing is a post link. Perfect.

I’ve not received notification of replies on a couple of threads that I monitor – but that could be my email filters. I’ll report if it continues to be a problem.

The main thing I want from monitoring is an option to monitor automatically any thread that I start or any thread I reply to.

Philippe,

One useful enhancement for the post link would be to highlight the post. E.g. when I visit http://forum.madebyfrog.com/post/6447/#post_6447, I do not know which post it is unless I hover over all of the posts that appear on screen. This is only an issue when the post is near the bottom of the display window and therefore cannot be positioned at top.

for the highlight we gonna wait for that

but I do have change de view list inthe topic list to the new post/123#post_123 link

and I do have had too the user posts list ( go to the user infos then there is a link in this page )

I hope everyone enjoy the little changes :)
